Reigate Junior LTA Tournament 2013

Reigate Lawn Tennis Club staged its 42nd Annual Grade 4 LTA Tournament from the 12th to the 17th August. This event attracted entries from aspiring players from Hertfordshire, Kent, Middlesex, Surrey and Sussex.

The 8 and under event was played on the Thursday as one round robin group of 7 players. All the players had fun and the matches were very well contested. There were 2 players each with 5 wins so the winner of the competition was decided by the best percentage of points won to points played. Connor Briggs from Richmond was the winner, Rafe Worsfold from Purley was the runner up and Joe Joliffe from the Reigate Club was third.

Benjamin Hart from Wimbledon retained the Boys 10U title that he won last year not losing a single game in his matches and Luka Burton from Sutton Tennis Academy was the runner up.

Both the Girls and the Boys 12 and under produced some great tennis especially in the finals of the Girls event when Flora McEwan from South Croydon beat Millicent Edwards from Haslemere. In the Boy’s 10U event Matthew Nair from Esher won the round robin group and Jovan Slijepcevic from Worcester Park was the runner up.

The 14U events were very well supported with some high quality matches in the early rounds. Alice Kirk from Sanderstead was the eventual winner beating Flora McEwan in the final. The Boy’s final was a very close tussle with some excellent rallies; Jamie Boden from Weybridge was the winner and Dominic Spicer from Limpsfield the runner up.

Again the 16 and under events were of high quality, in the finals Sophie Watkins from Woking beat Alice Kirk from Sanderstead and in Boy’s final Jamie Boden won his second title beating Harry Barham from Weybridge in a very closely contested final.

Sam Egan from Horsham produced some high calibre tennis to win the Boys 18U singles event beating Daniel Boden in the final. Sam also featured in the Mens Open event and although not seeded won a very tight match against Robert Ringshaw from Ashford in Middlesex.

In addition to the singles events there were 4 doubles events and consolation events for all age groups. The best of the doubles was the Mixed 18 and under which produced an exciting 3 set final culminating with a win from the team of Charly Earnshaw and Christopher Eveleigh who are both members of Reigate LTC.

The trophies were presented by the Club Chairman Deborah Hamlin who complimented all the players on their excellent standard of play and thanked the tournament Organisers and Catering Volunteers for their help in staging another successful Tournament.
