Last Saturday Reigate Lawn Tennis Club was treated
to a masterful show of tennis talent from the juniors at the club as they scooped all the titles and trophies in each of the finals events.
In a fiercely fought Men’s Singles match Adam Skalsky and Andy Watson produced some excellent play with long rallies with pinpoint accuracy
and terrific power. In the first set Adam gained an early break and held service to win it 6-3. In the second set Andy showed signs of a
resurgence but dropped serve again. He then broke back but Adam then broke again and finally took the second set 6-4 to win the title.
The hallmark of the Ladies Singles between Lucy Charlton (19 yrs) and Harriet Mitchell (14 yrs) was good rallies and exchanges of breaks of serve.
In the first set Lucy’s subtle play and power produced a win 6-3. At the beginning of the second set Harriet took a tumble which unnerved her and
she then lost three games in a row. However she rallied and fought back to 4-3 down but Lucy then took the next two games to close out the match
and win 6-3 and take the title.
In the Mixed Doubles the brother and sister pairing of Chris Harris and Wendy Boon took on the juniors Mark Whitehouse and Lucy Charlton. It was
an entertaining match but youth outwitted the seniors and they won 6-2, 6-2.
In the Men’s Doubles Final Adam Skalsky and Mark Whitehouse beat Andy Wishart and Graham Alston 6-4, 7-5. In the Ladies Doubles Final Lucy Charlton
and Hannah Ferret beat Hannah Mitchell and Annie Strange 6-1, 6-1.
Spectators enjoyed cocktails and canapes whilst watching tennis of the highest calibre. The future certainly looks bright for the juniors at Reigate Lawn Tennis Club.
